Read the following text and answer the questions below.

1. After six years with the company, Bob Johnson lost his job. Bob hadn’t done anything wrong. On the contrary, he was a good worker, but his company was cutting its workforce. Workforce cutbacks were a common occurrence in the early 1990s. In response, career experts developed tips for holding on to a job:

Make sure everyone knows you. Being a good worker is sometimes less important than making sure that people know you are a good worker. Volunteer for new responsibilities, push your ideas, and generally make yourself visible.

Accept challenge. Through challenge you will prove that you are a reliable and trustful worker. It is a good idea to step away from your comfort zone to explore new horizons. If you settle into a routine and play it safe all the time, you will never get ahead in your job. "If you always do what you have always done, you will get what you have already got."

4 Be positive. Add value every day. Come to work with a great attitude, enjoy what you do, and do it to the best of your ability every single day. Ask your coworkers and managers how you can help them. Give constructive feedback and help your team with changes for the better. People who find things to complain about are a lot less popular than people who find things to praise.

Take Initiative/Responsibility. Offering solutions to problems in a constructive manner, as well as standing up and taking responsibility for mistakes you have made, go a long way in catching an employer's attention. Do not wait for duties to be assigned to you.

Impress your boss. You can often impress your boss by arriving early and working late, and by dressing in a businesslike way even if others dress casually. In this case you will make yourself so valuable that the company will not want to lose you.
